Few restaurants in Greater Manchester have achieved the same cultural impact, culinary prestige, and international recognition as Peter Street Kitchen. Located inside the iconic Grade II*-listed Free Trade Hall, this celebrated dining destination blends Japanese izakaya precision with the bold energy of modern Mexican cuisine — and has become one of Manchester’s most talked-about restaurants.

As a local reporter who covers Manchester’s dining scene, I’ve seen restaurants come and go. But Peter Street Kitchen continues to stand out as one of Greater Manchester’s most consistently outstanding dining experiences.

A HISTORIC BUILDING TRANSFORMED INTO A MODERN DINING ICON

Before diners even taste their first dish, the location itself tells a story. The Free Trade Hall, built between 1853 and 1856, stands on the historic grounds of the Peterloo Massacre and was constructed to commemorate the repeal of the Corn Laws.
For decades, it served as the home of the Hallé Orchestra and later hosted iconic performers including Pink Floyd, The Smiths, Leonard Cohen, and David Bowie.

Severely damaged during the Manchester Blitz, the hall was rebuilt and eventually transformed into The Edwardian Manchester, a Radisson Collection Hotel, in 2004. Today, Peter Street Kitchen preserves the grandeur of the hall while reimagining it as a modern, luxury dining space.

High ceilings, grand colonnades, dramatic lighting, and striking architectural features create one of the most visually impressive restaurant settings in Greater Manchester.

A JAPANESE–MEXICAN CONCEPT BUILT ON EXPERTISE

Unlike traditional fusion restaurants, Peter Street Kitchen presents two distinct menus — one Japanese and one Mexican — allowing each cuisine to shine.

This concept is driven by Amir Jati, Service Excellence Director at Edwardian Hotels London. His decade-long experience working alongside Robert De Niro at Nobu shaped his vision for a menu focused on authenticity, balance, and high-end craftsmanship.

“I opened 17 of his restaurants across the world,” Jati says — a testament to the expertise behind the menu.

      The result?
A dining experience that feels unique, refined, and unforgettable — one that has helped cement Peter Street Kitchen as one of the best restaurants in Greater Manchester.

SIGNATURE DISHES THAT DEFINE THE EXPERIENCE

      Japanese Highlights

      • Yellowfin Tuna Sashimi Ribbons with kohlrabi and shiso soy — an 18-ingredient dressing masterpiece
      • Chilean Sea Bass Yasai Zuke — a Nobu-style preparation requiring 72 hours
      • A5 Wagyu served as tacos, ribeye, or tataki in truffle ponzu
      • Popcorn Tempura Shrimp — crisp, addictive, and a guest favourite

      Mexican Highlights

      • Dry-Rubbed Short Rib Tacos with smoked chilli mayo
      • Mayan-Spiced Chicken Ensalada with cashew and black lime
      • Lobster Gyoza Tacos — one of the most popular indulgent dishes
      • La Parilla Mexican Grill showcasing premium cuts served sizzling on hot lava stone

Each dish is plated with precision, one of the reasons Peter Street Kitchen is among the most Instagram-friendly dining spaces in Manchester.

A New Moët & Chandon Partnership and a Bold Menu Shift

In November 2025, Peter Street Kitchen entered one of its most exciting new chapters with the launch of an exclusive winter partnership with Moët & Chandon. Beginning on November 12, 2025, and running through February 2026, the restaurant unveiled a limited-edition French–Mediterranean winter menu, designed to complement the luxury Champagne-led experience that has taken over the iconic Free Trade Hall this season.

This collaboration transforms parts of the dining room into a glamorous celebration space dressed in deep red tones, velvet textures, festive floral installations, Champagne towers, and elegant winter décor, creating one of the most atmospheric winter dining settings in Manchester. The partnership also sees Peter Street Kitchen become one of the only venues in the UK to pour Moët Brut Impérial Red and Rosé Impérial Pink, two exclusive cuvées rarely seen outside special Maison events.

The new French-Mediterranean menu marks a notable evolution for the restaurant. Highlights include lobster puffs baked “escargot style” with Cognac and Dijon crème, seabass carpaccio finished with shaved truffle and Pink Lady apple, carabinero prawns, rigatoni alla vodka, and filet mignon with chanterelles and aged Parmesan crème. These dishes join the restaurant’s existing Japanese and Mexican creations, giving diners the opportunity to experience three distinct culinary influences under one roof — a rarity in Manchester’s fine dining landscape.

To complete the experience, the bar team has introduced Champagne-led cocktails including Le Chic (Moët Brut, croissant cordial and citrus foam), Hommage (Belvedere, cranberry, orange liqueur, Moët Rosé and passion fruit bubble) and Cadeau (Calvados VSOP, apple, elderflower, Cocchi Americano and Moët Brut). With its luxurious new look, exclusive Champagne selection and seasonal dishes, the Moët & Chandon partnership has elevated Peter Street Kitchen into one of Greater Manchester’s must-visit winter dining destinations.

      LUXURY WITHOUT THE PRETENCE

Many high-end restaurants struggle to strike a balance between sophistication and comfort. Peter Street Kitchen does both effortlessly.

The interior is divided into five zones, each offering a slightly different feel:

      • The Eye — a dramatic circular centrepiece with pendant lighting
      • Rikyū Lounge — intimate alcoves ideal for romantic dining
      • The Kabe — a semi-private space for up to 28 guests

The design blends minimalist Japanese textures with bold Mexican accents. One critic described it as:

“Cool, classy, and clean — a less-is-more aesthetic that lets the architecture speak.”

      COCKTAILS, WHISKY, & HIBACHI

      The Rikyū Bar

A premium cocktail bar celebrating Japanese and Mexican ingredients. Signature drinks include:

      • Tonka Passion Fruit Martini
      • Yuzu & Mandarin Margarita
      • Hibiscus & Agave Highball

      The Hibachi Table

A semi-private experience for up to 12 guests featuring dramatic fire-pit cooking — perfect for celebrations or corporate events.

      Japanese Whisky Masterclasses

Every other Saturday, guests learn about distillation, tasting techniques, and enjoy a flight of four premium whiskies paired with small plates.

Few restaurants in Manchester offer this much variety under one roof.
